- The application process for Mumbai University Mass Communication is similar for all the programmes, which has to be followed by the applicants. The application forms are available offline from the University campus. Candidates have to purchase the forms against the application fee and submit the same at the campus only before the deadline.
- Candidates have to write an essay of not less than 500 words and maximum 800 words. This document has to be typed in a single sheet and signed by the candidate. The essay or the SOP must be in the form of an argument which justifies candidates purpose of taking the course. This essay may be written in English, Hindi or Marathi. The language of the testimonials can be English, Hindi or Marathi.This essay has to be submitted along with the application form.
- The student has to submit testimonials or letter of recommendations from at least two teachers who have personally taught the student in school or in college. The document must state the reasons why teachers feel that the particular student should do the course, and how the course will benefit the student. This document has to be of maximum 150 words each. The document must also state the period that the teacher has been associated with the student in the said institution. The language of the testimonials can be English, Hindi or Marathi.

The eligibility criteria prescribed by the officials mention that graduates from a recognized university or an institution are eligible to apply for admissions. Applicants must also have secured a minimum of 50% marks at graduation level. The eligibility criteria for all the programmes are same for the candidates to follow.

- The selection process of Mumbai University Mass Communication consists of three steps after the submission of the application form.
Stage 1: All the eligible candidates who have applied for the admissions by submitting the application forms and required documents have to appear in the test and secure the minimum cutoff, which is 150 marks. The officials will shortlist candidates as per merit and release a list of the selected candidates.
Stage 2- Group Discussion (GD): The shortlisted candidates, whose names are mentioned in the result list will be called for the Group Discussion rounds. The schedule for the same will be on the website after the result, and also on the University notice board. At this stage candidates will be given a subject to discuss and debate. The students will be assessed for language, presentation, articulation and content. Each of the assessing factor will carry a weight of 25 marks. Students again will be shortlisted as per their performance or merit for the next round.
Stage 3- Interview: Here, each student will be given total three minutes to present herself/himself. During the presentation candidates have to define and state the purpose and motivation for pursuing the course. This presentation will completely be oral excluding all technical support. This oral presentation can either be in English, Hindi or Marathi. Candidates will be assessed on factors like, language, presentation, clarity of purpose and overall impression. Each factor will have weighatge of 25 marks.
