The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) was established in 1960 by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of the Government of India. Aided by the Central Government of India and it is located in the premises of the erstwhile Prabhat Studios in Pune.

The institute is well-known as one of the best film institutes in India as well as a centre for excellence in audio visual media across the world. The FTII alumni network is one of the best and very well spread across the globe as they work across the world. The alumni have also won various prestigious national and international film awards like Oscars, Dada Saheb Phalke award, and India’s highest civilian honours of Padma Awards.

During its early days, the institute offered its original five courses. Over the years, they expanded their expertise and today, it offers 11 full-time courses in various disciplines of film and television. They also have several short term courses.

Reservation For Courses

Below is the category wise distribution of the number of seats at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII). All the seats are reserved as per the reservation criteria of the Government of India. If we generalise all the courses, about 50 per cent seats are open or for General (Gen) admission, 30 per cent of the seats are for Other Backward Class (OBC), and the remaining seats are for the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST).

Admission Process

The admission is allotted in the FTII on the basis of nationally administered Joint Entrance Test (JET) and subsequent rounds of orientation and interview, which is conducted by the institute.

Courses and Fees : FTII

FTII also offers the limited various scholarships of state and central governments to the deserving candidates. Along with this, there are various memorial awards instituted by individuals or trusts.
